Someone has said, only what’s done for Christ will last for all eternity. Our purpose, therefore, is to serve, to bless, and to add value to others. He didn’t only say but also show us how He came not to be served but to serve. Jesus, the King of kings and the Lord of lords, has also demonstrated this. Even those who are engaged in business understood that profit is not the main purpose, but to provide solutions and meet the needs of their customers, the people. But in our calling, we add value to others and therefore find significance. In our careers, we add value to ourselves and therefore find success. When our purpose is bigger than ourselves, we have a calling. He said, when we are bigger than our purpose, we have a career. Maxwell differentiates a calling versus a career. And we can see that it’s God who brought him forward. David was faithfully doing what he was called to do. Again, it’s not your purpose but God’s purpose.
The Scripture says, God chose David from the sheep pens. When David was chosen to be the king of Israel, he was tending his father’s sheep. Whatever field of profession or vocation we are into, we faithfully do what we are called to do. Serve faithfully, knowing that whatever you are doing, you are all doing it for the glory of God. So, how do we do that? Start with what you’ve got. This is the kind of life we should long to live, a life lived to the fullest. There’s no higher calling than to serve God’s purpose. – It’s not for you and it’s not even your purpose but God’s purpose. It’s not you becoming bigger but Him, being magnified. God’s purpose for us is to know Him, to make Him known, and be like Him (Christlikeness). Thus, understand that He created us, He made us according to His plan, and He will use us for His glory. Does it mean that we don’t have to set goals and dreams in life? Not at all! The point is, whatever field of profession or vocation you are into the marketplace, your purpose is for Him and not for you. – What does it mean? Well, it means, it’s not about you and it’s not about your purpose, but God’s purpose. Let me share with you 3 things that we have to understand in finding our purpose in life. So, how can we find our purpose? Well, there’s no other way to find that out but to go back to our Creator. I believe each one of us has God-given unique purpose, the reason why we exist, and what on earth we are here for. Finding out our “why” will lead us to our purpose in life. That’s something worth it, to seek what we were put on this earth to do. I don’t know about you, but have you ever asked yourself the reason why you were born and what on earth you are here for? American writer, Mark Twain said,
